Spring ’08 Fashion Flash Forward

“I have never known a really chic woman whose appearance was not, in large part, an outward reflection of her inner self.” – MAINBOCHER

Dear Fashion Aficionados:

While the national political climate has been trumpeting change and nonpartisanship, the new Worth spring collection is, as usual, ahead of the sartorial curve on both fronts. Balancing laid backed and athletic with crisp and structured, the new collection implements the latest runway trends while remaining true to its origins of pure American classic sportswear. A modern approach that is sure to be a frontrunner.

The Top Trends from Spring Runway

• Slick & Shiny: patent, metallic, sequins
• Overblown Playful Patterns: watercolor florals, psychedelic graphics and patchwork
• Out of Africa: animal prints and ethnic designs anchored with neutrals
• Layered Transparency: textured silk, chiffon, organza and tulle
• Color: both high voltage and muted
• Waist Emphasis: everything is belted or has detail at the natural waistline
• Monumental Heels, Wedges, Open-toe Booties and Gladiator Sandals
• Oversized Clutches and Frame Bags
• Big Baubles: wooden, resin and Lucite cuffs, bangles, necklaces and rings
• And a Big Dose of Confidence

spring08a.jpg

And how has Worth translated these runway trends into reality for your wardrobe? We offer three refreshing groups that will help you incorporate up-to-the-moment fashion with simplicity and comfort that fits your lifestyle.

First we’ve taken a relaxed silhouette in comfortable Italian stretch cotton canvas and counterbalanced it with structured jackets. These jackets are predominantly hip-length, but there are also longer boardroom styles. Details such as architectural seaming, double-entry pockets and mother of pearl buttons make these jackets standouts. Some of our favorite are the wool/silk glen plaid hipster jacket with a stand-up notched collar and unexpected bell sleeves, a cross hatch egg-shaped jacket with elliptical balloon sleeves, a cotton waffle pique biker jacket and the intrinsic and polished glazed leather jacket with contrast pic stitching.

Nature and its organic shapes, which can be transformed by the pull of a bungee cord or the roll of a sleeve, inspired our second group. Full-blown florals mix with the pretty and the earthy. Windbreaker blowy cottons are paired with textured or metallic glazed linens and tweeds to elevate down-to-earth fabrics to a refined finish.

The traditional “Hepburn” blazer and the urban cargo shacket are made from the finest Italian stretch tropical wool. A"Marni” inspired exaggerated funnel neck bubble jacket is made from “blowy” cotton poplin. The new “Lombard” cropped pant, which has a flat front is also made from this lightweight and crisp fabric. But one of our favorite pieces is a dress that is the combination of a French shirt with a crisp French skirt. With exaggerated pleats, three-quarter sleeves and an elastic waist that can be belted, it captures the best of vintage 70’s YSL.

Italian stretch tropical wool also serves as the base fabric of our third group, but in classic ivory and black. The new “Audrey”, double cotton flat front pant that tapers to the heel, grounds and defines the slim bottom/voluminous top silhouette that dominate this part of the collection. For starters there’s an athletic-inspired jacket with a rounded sporty shape that has covered snaps and sleeves finishing just below the elbow. Another jacket is A-framed, also with three quarter sleeves, but chunky lacquered buttons pop against ivory or black for contrast. A laminated patent slicker and a jacquard dot sheath dress with patent trim are statement pieces that lend retro cool.

spring08b.jpg

And, as always, there are Worth’s sensuous and seasonless silk jersey, cotton jersey, lightweight cashmere and ultra fine merino wool tanks and tees to go under everything. We are also introducing mercerized cotton that has been treated to bring out the luster and color intensity of every piece. Your favorite pants: “Charlotte”, “Gladys”, “Chloe” and “Kiera” return in new fabrics and colors to go with all the new jackets and toppers

So, you see, much is new at Worth, but quality, fashion and service - the hallmark of everything Worth does – are reassuringly the same. And that will surely get your vote every season.

Winter ’07 Fashion Flash Forward

Dear Fashion Aficionados:

As summer slowly fades into beautiful crisp days and colors the landscape with a vibrancy of russets and reds, your wardrobe too, must make the transition. From the looser silhouettes of summer comes an about-face from practically every major designer to silhouettes with a definitive attitude – well suited for the urbane woman that we all are.

This is a silhouette driven season that heralds a seismic shift in proportion for the near future. There is simply nothing kitschy about this return to fitted retro chic rendered in modern cuts, colors and fabrics. And Worth, of course, has interpreted the runway in totally wearable, easy to understand pieces from sophisticated and edgy to luxurious and down-to-earth.

EXQUISITELY SHAPED JACKETS: Jackets abound at Worth this season with styles that are sure to suit everyone. Our top picks for everyday are fitted hip-length blazers in wool flannel, boucles and tweed. Worth signature leather is featured in motorcycle jackets, shirt jackets, swing coast and belted military inspired metallic. Adorable and easy swing jackets look updated in super soft stretch flannels and an over-the-top leopard print. And longer jackets in pinstripes have the unexpected touch of Lurex. The flannel bomber is updated in a glen plaid and the ubiquitous anorak is fabulous in satin gunmetal and bronze.

win1.jpg

PANTS: This season remains grounded with pants. It’s the combination of the jacket and the pant that defines the look. The wide-leg and fluid “Gladys” in a twill stripe, metallic plaid or velvet looks confident and ultra glamorous when worn with belted, hip-length jackets, fitted knits or a romantic blouse with cascading ruffles. The more streamlined “Keira” and “Jessica” in denim and tropical and flannel wools give swingy jackets and coats their edge. And of course our tried and true “Charlotte” returns in a sophisticated pin stripe and solid gabardine.

SKIRTS: Peg Skirts dominate for day in tropical wool, colored denim and metallic skin prints. For evening, the options are endless: velvet flip skirts with a chiffon panel, chenille lace, dotted jacquard and sparkle plaid slim skirts, and a flared crushed taffeta skirt.

win2.jpg

KNITS & BLOUSES: Blouses are back in soft geometrics georgettes and traditional cuffed shirting for day and plaid taffetas and crepe tuxedo cutaways for evening. Knits are more streamlined and less chunky for winter, and anchor the bold new silhouettes. Cashmere tees in saturated colors such as cranapple, chilly blue and wild grape are a luxurious staple. Wraps, belted A-lines, and walking coats in either wool or cashmere make a statement all on their own and look pulled together for casual Fridays or weekends.

COLORS: As a counterbalance to fall’s black, bittersweet and heather gray, colors are either Bold: greenglow and solarium; Warm: chestnut, moonstone and cranapple; or Regal: black cherry, chilly blue, galaxy blue, purple shadow and wild grape.

What Items Should Be In Your Wardrobe This Upcoming Season?

❒ The Shoe: Platform Oxford, Patent Mary Jane, Bootie
❒ The Bag: Oversize Clutch or Structured Day Bag, Skins
❒ New Pant: Wide & Fluid, Menswear-Inspired
❒ Suit: Pant or Peg Skirt/Fitted Jacket with an Unexpected Evening Accent such as, Metallic, Velvet or Satin
❒ Knits: Chunky and Cozy Walking Coats; Longer A-line Tunic
❒ Outerwear: Silk Anorak or Taffeta Puffer, Bomber, Wool Trench

Fall ’07 Fashion Flash Forward
Dear Fashion Aficionados:

The recent Fourth of July fireworks, although spectacular, were but a flash in the pan compared to the upcoming 2007 Fall Fashion – a celebration of the independent woman that’s sure to endure. This season’s wardrobe staples are sophisticated, architectural and well proportioned, exhibiting an evident shift in shape that relies on black and gray to get its message across. These new silhouettes are the beginning of a new mood that will last for several seasons to come. So, now is the time to start building some key pieces into your wardrobe.

This season Worth has merged classic fabrics with razor-sharp technology to interpret these new shapes. While dresses are still having their moment, and Worth offers many, pants ground the collection. New jacket shapes and a plethora of knits give the fall line a new focus.

• Jackets are longer, either fitted through the body or textured and swingy, both styles sporting a soft shoulder. Short jackets and textured bombers remain on the line as well in colors like confetti, bluestar, flare and gecko with funnel necks and bracelet sleeves.

• Pants go from narrow to fluid with the return of the pleated trouser known as the “Amanda”. Menswear in feel, this flattering triple-pleated pant sits on the waist with the pleats starting under the hipbones leaving the front flat over the tummy. On the other end of the spectrum, Worth introduces the “Claire”, a flat-front, slim fit pant in a cotton riding twill, and adds “Jessica” (the hit pant from spring and summer) in single faced wool and wool twill. Other favorites offered are: “Charlotte”, Chloe”, “Gladys”, “Kiera”, and “Melissa” all in new colors and fabrics.

• Textured Knits have volume, and distinctive new shapes. Luxurious jacket-length jacquard cardigans and three-gauge circular knit cashmere walking coats are worn as a replacement for a more casual, two-piece look.

fall1.jpg

As usual, the design team outdid themselves with fabrics to die for. Leather and suede, a Worth luxury staple, takes many shapes for fall, i.e. the funnel neck jacket with brushed silver snaps or the belted glazed leather jacket with oversized lapels and wide cropped sleeves.

An over the top sumptuous shearling fringe shawl is THE luxury piece to have. Other fabulous fabrics and treatments include domino tweed with patent leather braiding, father-weight wool tartans and quilted cotton twill with leather piping.

fall2.jpg

Not to be outdone by the larger fashion houses, Worth is debuting its first-ever handbag collection. Made from exotic skins, these structured handbags are lady-like and offer a shot of color. Satchels, clutches and day and evening bags with chain straps are being offered in addition to beautiful belts and bangles.

Worth has it all!

Fashion Pieces You Should Put on your Shopping List:

➢ Tote or Structured Bags in an Exotic Skin
➢ Ditto the Clutch
➢ Structured Jacket with a Funnel Neck and/or Barrel Shaped Sleeves

Spring ’07 Fashion Flash Forward

Dear Fashion Aficionado:

With nary a snowflake in sight, Worth is ready to celebrate Spring 2007 - and what a beautiful and wearable season it is. The runways were full of truly elegant, sophisticated and easy separates that translate into the multi-faceted life of today's woman. And as usual, the Worth design team was right there with them.
C_02a.jpg

The tailored, chic American sportswear of which Worth has built its reputation, was at the forefront of many designers' collections and stood out in stark contrast to collections in recent past designed for leggy 16-year olds. In its place were beautiful dresses in a multitude of shapes, loose and lean pantsuits reminiscent of 40's screen legends and silhouette-defining bottoms that ran the gamut from above-the-knee slouchy shorts to floor grazing menswear trousers to stovepipes that pool at the ankles.

Of course Worth captures all of these new pant looks introducing the "Stella" full short; the "Gladys" and "Scarlett" wide-leg pant and the "Keira" and "Melissa" narrower leg pant. And as always, Worth brings back all the favorite pants styles that are in so many of your wardrobes: the "Charlotte", "Shakira", and "Thora."
C_01a.jpg

Like Fall '06, layering is key, but instead of bulky cables, the layers are now tissue-thin cashmere and t-shirting. Cotton and silk sweaters return at Worth once again as a summer staple. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, sharp suits in blended techno fibers marry the crispness of lightweight tropical wool with the all-day comfort of Lycra.

The overall silhouette has also loosened up a bit as well - jackets are not quite as cropped and pants and skirts have more of an insouciant volume and movement. In other words, you can breathe now and even perhaps ingest a morsel of food.

As usual, Strategic Image Partners has narrowed down the trends for you, and listed are our Top 10 Hits that will get you through the season in the style you are known for and the put-together look you have become accustomed.

The Top Ten Spring '07 Trends that No Wardrobe Should Be With Out:

1. The Dress in all its Wonderful Incarnations

2. Menswear Suit with the New Longer Jacket

3. Tissue-thin, Thigh-Skimming Cotton & Cashmere Cardigan or a Crochet Vest

4. "Pretty" Longer Lightweight Shirt or Tunic in Silk Organza, Linen or Cotton Voile

5. AppliquÈ and "Guipor" Lace Cropped Jacket Worn as a Separate

6. The Duster Worn over Pants or Worn Alone and Belted as a Shirt Dress

7. The Knee-Length City Short Worn Casually or with a Jacket as a Suit

8. Flats, Wedges and Wooden Heels

9. Oversized Bags and Clutches in Metallic, Patent and Mesh

10. Stacked Chunky Cuffs in Resin and Wood & Hermes-like belts with High Polished Hardware

Fall ’06 Fashion Flash Forward

Dear Fashion Aficionados:
1PANTS.JPG

We’re fresh from the Worth runway show this past weekend and can hardly contain our excitement; there were so many great pieces to give all our wardrobes that boost of energy needed for fall in the City. We know that sweaters, outerwear and boots are the last thing on your mind when you haven’t even had your summer vacation yet. However, we’re here to do the thinking for you, so you can go to the beach knowing you won’t miss out on a single fall fashion trend.

The 10 key trends for your Fall and Winter wardrobe:

1. The New Pants: Skinny (including Leggings) or Slouchy & Full
2. Longer Jackets & Tunics
3. Layered Knits
4. Capes
5. Fur, Fur & More Fur
6. Baroque Velvets, Lace, Brocade
7. Tartan & Plaid
8. Empire Dresses & Balloon Skirts
9. Patterned & Opaque Tights
10. Metallics

The BIGGEST NEWS this fall is the new proportion: skinny on the bottom, volume on the top, seen to its full affect on the Balenciaga runway. This silhouette change is most obvious with pants where the shape has changed dramatically. What’s happening is the low-rise bell-bottom is taking a back seat to the skinnier, higher waist pant. This year Worth introduces the “Melissa” in denim and light weight wool with a slightly higher rise than “Shakira” and a very straight leg that looks great tucked into boots or hitting long over heels or flats. This pant looks best when worn as a suit with a long jacket or more casually with a luxurious knit or suede tunic on top.

2LEATHER.JPG

The other major silhouette is the slouchy, borrowed-from-the-boys looks of roomy trousers, blazers and cardigans. Worth’s “Gladys” pant fills this role in spades. Flat front, with a side zipper and fluid from hip to ankle, this pant is always office appropriate when worn with a pretty blouse or a luxe belt, bag or boot. Worth is about making all of us look our best, so if neither of these styles are for you, remember that Worth continues to offer classic favorites like “Thora”, “Chloe”, “Scarlett”, and “Charlotte” in new colors and fabrics.

Cozy, enveloping knits were all over the runway this season from Ralph Lauren to Hermes to yes, Worth. Layered and belted, they looked fantastic over pants, leggings, skirts and dresses. The sweater is the ultimate transition piece in September and October and can be worn over summer dresses paired with tights, or worn in place of a blazer with skirts and pants. Worth showed the most luxurious cashmeres, wools, cottons and silk/cotton blends in every silhouette from a knee-length, toggle-closure to cable one-shoulder tanks, capped sleeves and turtlenecks.

Other great transitional pieces are the cape, the traditional British trench, and of course our lightweight, luxurious leathers and suedes sourced from the finest Italian mills. These pieces, as well as blazers, are sporting military details like stand-up collars, breast pockets and epaulets. Skirts, also the perfect transitional item, shared the common thread of movement. Whether knee length or mid-calf, whether cotton crochets, wool, taffeta, or plaid, they were fluid and slightly flared to slim, but not restrict the body. They looked fantastic with knee-high and ankle boots.

The unexpected mix of daytime tweed with nighttime velvet, brocade and lace were another subtle trend shown on the Worth runway. Look for gold thread woven into boucle, chiffon peaking from panels of our trumpet skirt, and the less subtle, but wear-with-everything quilted linen coat in 18-karat gold. And of course, don’t forget the ultimate luxury: fur cuffs and wraps added to utilitarian sweaters and coats.

3SUIT.JPG

Runway to Worthway

Looks that worth has interpreted from the major runway shows:

From Chanel - Fringe Oakley Jacket
From Donna Karan - Wrap White Silk Blouse in Silk Taffeta with Bow
From Oscar de la Renta - Oatmeal Donegal Jacket and Skirt with Pleated Trim
From Burberry - Shirt Dress with Military Details
From Ralph Lauren - Shearling Motorcycle Jacket in Cognac
From Monique Lhullier - Black Opera Topper
From Narcisco Rodriguez - Little Black Empire Dress in Crepe

As always, we are here to ensure that you look your best, so if the current trends look better on others, always remember in the immortal words of Coco Chanel “Fashion passes, style remains.” We look forward to helping you express your personal style this fall.

Spring ’06 Fashion Flash Forward

Hello Fellow Fashion Aficionados!

Finally, spring has arrived and with it a whole new crop of wearable clothes for real women, with real jobs and real schedules to juggle. This season it’s not about color – unless you’re thinking white – but new silhouettes, especially when it comes to showing off the waistline or mixing it up with pants.

If you haven’t noticed, there are more pants styles out there than there are OPI nail colors. It’s all about proportion. Gone are the requisite bum-hugging jeans worn with the tank and the pointed toe sandal (and looking best on all those GIRLS out there 5’11” and 110 lbs), and in its place are a variety of silhouettes that will make even the most self-conscious of us feel hip enough to hit Bette’s on a Thursday night.
image005

Your choices range from wide leg Hepburn trousers worn with a menswear shirt adorned with pretty tucking or ruffles and a sharp jacket; or cropped wide legs trousers worn with the equally cropped and cinched-at-the-waist jacket, or the long lean cigarette pant or jean (there may be a smoking ban, but this style is legal and smokin’). And you don’t have to be tall or particularly thin to pull this off, just wear them with something slightly billowy on top, (once again, a great jacket can pull this look together) to balance out proportions. Just remember that flats make this look more street worthy than streetwalker, but a heel can look great for evenings out.

Now it is also time to put away those flowers and pull out your scarves. Everyone is wearing scarves and in many new ways, whether as a halter, headscarf, belt or neckerchief, they are the new old trend. Scarves worn as halters note that bare is in for summer. Shoulders are shown everywhere. Whether it is a cutaway, tank, blouse or bustier, shoulders are on display. You can download the 5mb file by clicking here:
http://www.strategicimagepartners.com/scarftying.pdf

And then there are shorts. Now, don’t hit the delete button. We’re serious that almost everybody can pull this off. You just have to know which shorts work for your figure and which shorts are appropriate for what occasion. Shorts at the knee or a little below (skirt length) can be worn with a short jacket as a suit. Remember to apply the same rules that you would a skirt if you’re wearing them in a professional setting. Wear them in work-appropriate fabrics and pair them with low or mid-heeled pumps, either pointed or the more updated (and comfortable) round toe, and a blouse, shell, or sweater set. When wearing casually on the weekends, shorts can be long or short in linen and cotton and worn with flats or wedges and a tank and a casual jacket. If you have good legs, you can get away with the shorter, slouchy versions, which look really great with a tucked-in blouse, the sleeves rolled up, and chunky heels.

image010 Another key silhouette change is the waistline. Shirt dresses and full skirts capitalize on this trend best, especially when cinched with a belt in a medium or wide width. Cropped jackets show off the waistline as well, especially when worn with the new higher waist pant.

Although the big news isn’t color, there are colors that are making a strong showing this season. Head-to-toe white, as we mentioned earlier, as well as chocolate worn with white or with a pop of color. Neutrals – a trend that continues from last spring – are still big and very sophisticated. And believe it or not, the directional look is navy worn with black – a trend that should carry into fall. Natural accessories made with raffia and wood still look fresh, as well as really long necklaces, a couple at a time, but not too many. Bags are either luggage-sized or miniature and look new in straw with contrasting fabric or printed botanicals. Shoes are either vertiginous heels or fabulous flats and have been updated with a softer toe. And the wedge, both dressy and casual, looks great with longer skirts and cropped pants and offers a comfortable alternative to the heel. Metallic plays a key role again both in handbags and shoes. However, wear one piece at a time to avoid the Solid Gold Dancer look. And remember, our motto is, gold can be a neutral. It will look great with your tan this summer.

Top 10 Items on your Spring/Summer “Open to Buy”

1. An updated suit preferably with the new shorter jacket
2. Crisp, white blouse with a special detail like pleats or Swiss dot
3. A fabulous just-below-the knee trench to be worn with everything
4. A dress that can go from office to cocktails. There’s a silhouette this year for every figure.
5. Walking shorts for the weekend or to be worn with a jacket and heels for casual Fridays
6. Straight leg to-the-ankle pant or jean
7. Round-toed flats – looks good with everything
8. Wedges in a neutral color. Perhaps burnished gold with raffia?
9. Oversized, slouchy handbag in straw, printed botanical (a la Gucci) or white
10. And a great “fake” tan and a dazzling smile
